Balázs Ádám

Ádám Balázs studied composition with Mik lós Kocsár at the Béla Bartók Secondary Music School in Budapest, whilst simultaneously completing both a Bachelor and Master of Arts at Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest (ELTE), majoring in English language and literature. Early on in his education, he went to the United States as a Breakthrough Scholar at Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri. Upon completing his studies, he was offered the position of adjunct lecturer at the American Studies Department of ELTE in Budapest. By 2014, he became a faculty member at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, where he teaches digital orchestration and studio techniques. At present, he has composed music for over 60 films, including the Oscar-winning Sing (Kristóf Deák, dir.), Golden Bear Winner and Oscar-nominated On Body and Soul (Ildikó Enyedi, dir.), The Story of My Wife (Ildikó Enyedi, dir.) and The Butterfly Effect 3: Revelations (Seth Grossman, dir.). For his work on The Elephant King (Seth Grossman, dir.), he was awarded “Best Score” at the 2006 Sacramento International Film Festival. He was awarded “Best Composer” at the 2020 Hungarian Film Awards for his work on the made-for-television film Captives (Kristóf Deák, dir.). He also composed for two highly regarded television series for HBO Europe entitled Terápia (Therapy) and Umbre (Shadows). His symphonic poem, Path of the Extraordinary, had its world-premiere in 2006 at Carnegie Hall in New York; it was composed to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution. He is a member of the European Film Academy.
