Életrajz

Máté Balogh was born in 1990 in Győr. He is a graduate of the Music Secondary of Pécs, where he specialized in music theory and composition under the tutelage of István Győrffy. He finished his studies in composition at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest under Zoltán Jeney. In 2013, he spent a semester in Trieste, Italy, studying composition with Fabio Nieder, followed by a year working under the mentorship of Péter Eötvös. He received his doctoral DLA degree at the Liszt Academy of Music and is currently an associate professor in the Music Theory Department and at the International Kodály Institute. He held the position of Editor-in-Chief of the Universal Music Publishing Editio Musica Budapest until September 2018, focusing largely on the works of György Kurtág. His pieces have been performed all over Europe and in Turkey, China, Taiwan, Japan, and the United States. He composed the soundtrack for Zsófia Szilágyi’s film entitled One Day, which was awarded the FIPRESCI-Prize in Cannes in 2019. His music has been presented at numerous international festivals, such as Manifeste Festival (IRCAM-Paris), Milano Musica, Listening to China (Shanghai), etc. Among others, he has worked with Ensemble Mozaik (GER), Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra (PRC), Huntsville Symphony Orchestra (USA), Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra (CZ), Asasello Quartet (GER), Stadler Quartet (AUS), and the Slovenian National Choir (SLO), to name a few. In the last decade, he has won several prizes at international composition competitions in Bruxelles, Cannes, Mannheim, Trieste, Ostrava, Beijing, and Budapest. He was awarded the Junior Prima Prize, Artisjus Prize, Salvatore Quasimodo Prize, and Fidelio 50 Prize. He has held the position of President of the Hungarian Composers’ Union since 2021.
